Yes. German smear is a mortar-based finish that permanently bonds to the brick surface. Unlike paint or limewash, it will not peel, fade, or require reapplication. Once applied, the finish becomes part of the masonry itself — aging gracefully over decades.
Not at all. German smear works with your existing brick, not against it. The lime-based mortar is breathable, meaning moisture can still pass through the masonry. This preserves the structural integrity of your brick while transforming its appearance.
Absolutely. We work with you to determine the ideal coverage — from a light, translucent wash that allows most of the original brick character to show, to a heavy, nearly full mortar coat that creates a European limestone look. We always apply a sample wall section for your approval before proceeding.
Most residential exteriors take three to five business days, depending on total square footage and architectural complexity. Fireplaces and accent walls are typically completed within one to two days. We provide a detailed timeline during your consultation.
